Safety Rates in Different Modes of Transportation
برطانیہ کے شعبہ ٹرانسپورٹ کی ایک تحقیق کے مطابق ہر ایک بلین کلومیٹر سفر میں اگر یہ سفر جہاز کا ہو تو اموات کی شرح 0.05 فیصد ہے. یعنی ہم کہہ سکتے ہیں دُنیا میں اس وقت سب سے محفوظ سفر ہوائی جہاز کا ہے. کیونکہ دوسرے ذرائع سفر میں پھر یہ شرح بڑھتی چلی جاتی ہے.
مثلاً شہر کے اندر چلتی بسوں میں یہ شرح 0.4 فیصد ٹرین میں 0.6 ٹرک میں 1.2 کار میں 1.6 سمندری جہازوں میں 3.1 فیصد جبکہ سائیکل پر 44.6 فیصد ہے. غریب کی سواری پر پہنچتے پہنچتے یہ شرح بڑھ گئی، مزید غربت یعنی پیدل چلنے والوں میں یہ 54.2 فیصد ہے. لیکن موٹر-سائیکل پر یہ سب سے زیادہ یعنی 108.9 فیصد ہے.
آپ کو لگے گا شائد ایک بلین کلومیٹر میں یہ شرح کچھ نہیں تو جناب یہ یورپ کا سروے ہے جہاں فٹ پاتھ کا احترام ہے. سائیکل سوار بھی ہیلمٹ پہنتا ہے اور موٹر-سائیکل والا بھی پورا حفاظتی سامان پہن کر سفر کرتا ہے. ہمارے ملک میں پیدل چلنے والوں کو گاڑیوں والے انسان نہیں سمجھتے جبکہ موٹر-سائیکل والے خود کو ہی انسان نہیں سمجھتے بلکہ لگتا ہے بغیر ہیلمٹ دو پہیوں پر وہ موت کے کنویں کے بازیگر ہیں.
ہمارے ملک میں ایسے سروے بھی نہیں ہوتے ورنہ ہم جان پاتے رکشے اور چنگچی کا کیا حساب چل رہا ہے. ہمارے ہاں تو سروے بھی سب اپنی مرضی کے نتائج دکھانے کیلئے کرتے ہیں.
According to a study by the transportation sector in Britain, the mortality rate per billion kilometers traveled varies across different modes of transport. For air travel, the mortality rate is 0.05%, making it the safest mode of travel globally. However, this rate increases significantly for other modes of transportation:
- Within-city buses: 0.4%
- Trains: 0.6%
- Trucks: 1.2%
- Cars: 1.6%
- Sea vessels: 3.1%
The mortality rate further rises for cyclists to 44.6% and significantly higher to 54.2% for pedestrians, indicating increased risk for those in poverty. Surprisingly, the most dangerous mode of transport is motorcycling, with a mortality rate of 108.9%.
You might find it surprising that the mortality rate is not negligible even for one billion kilometers. This survey highlights the emphasis on safety measures in Europe, where cyclists wear helmets, and motorcyclists equip themselves with protective gear. Unfortunately, pedestrians are often disregarded by motorists, while motorcyclists themselves sometimes overlook safety measures, considering themselves daredevils without helmets. Such surveys are not common in our country, or else we would have a clearer picture of the risks associated with different modes of transport, including rickshaws and motorbikes.
